History of Development Applications Relevant to the King Street Wharf Precinct
In late 1996, a Master Plan for the entire Wharves 9 and 10 precinct (the 1997 Master Plan) was prepared by Jackson Teece Chesterman Willis Consultants Pty Ltd and Master Plan Consultants Pty Ltd on behalf of the then Office of Marine Administration. The 1997 Master Plan was adopted by the Central Sydney Planning Committee (CSPC) on 24 July 1997.Development Application 22-09-98 approved the "demolition of wharf structures including overseas passenger terminal on Wharf 10 and construction of Stage 1 of the redevelopment comprising six of the nine parcels being parcels 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 (as identified in the Master Plan for the site) for residential, retail, hotel, tourist and charter boat activities, waterfront promenade and associated infrastructure".
Sites 4, 5, 8 and 9 are the waterfront promenade buildings that contain commercial uses. The buildings contain active uses at the ground floor levels, particularly along the waterfront promenade, which include bars, restaurants, cafes etc. These uses were approved as part of the overall DA and include the use of the subject site for a restaurant and the associated outdoor seating areas. There are no residential dwellings located in these buildings along the waterfront area.
